Senior Hydraulic Pipeline Engineer

Location: Houston, TX

Description


Senior Hydraulic Pipeline Engineer responsible for assigned activities within the Pipeline discipline in the Energy global business unit.  Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices to project engineering in the preparation of designs and deliverables.  Makes decisions concerning problems within the discipline on the project.  Represents the discipline on the project and with the client as directed to resolve technical questions.

Responsibilities
  • Performs pipeline engineering tasks; including, but not limited to, pipeline related calculations, pipeline hydraulics and flow assurance support.
  • Executes pipeline engineering task including hydraulics and flow assurance studies for single phase (gas or liquid) and multiphase fluids (gas, oil, and water, steady-state and transients), design of pumping and compression systems, modeling for control system, surge relief system, and blowdown system design.
  • Performs hydraulic modeling and studies using Synergi Pipeline Simulator (SPS), OLGA, PipeSim, Gregg Engineering, and Hysys software.
  • Prepares specifications, data sheets, material requisitions and bid evaluations. Reviews vendor provided data, documentation, and drawings.
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard pipeline engineering methods, techniques, procedures, and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines particularly with mechanical discipline for pumps and compressors selection, configurations, and sizing.
  • Provides technical assistance to other pipeline personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues.
  • Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project pipeline requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution.
  • Ensures that engineering including flow assurance and hydraulics work is carried out in accordance with our work processes and procedures, project specific procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Ensures that pipeline design meets industry best practice and complies with pertinent pipeline codes and standards, governing regulations, and industry practices.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or bid proposals for pipeline.
  • Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Understanding of industry and regulatory codes, best practices, and design criteria pertinent to the pipeline discipline.
  • Experience and knowledge of ASME, API, AWWA, ASTM and MSS codes/product specifications is essential. Specific knowledge of ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8 and CFR is a must.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal skills to communicate with project teams and strong written skills to prepare reports, calculations, and other documentation.
  • Possesses a minimum of B.S. degree in chemical / mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university (or international equivalent) with an emphasis on pipeline hydraulics, fluid mechanics, and numerical methods and a minimum of 6+ years’ experience
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Texas or other state is preferred
