Job Description

Engineering Technician Associate

Location: Enid, OK

Description:
 
Performs a wide range of analytical tasks related to the design, construction, maintenance, and operation of electrical power distribution facilities. Projects include design of distribution facilities (serving residential, commercial and small industrial customers), relocation of existing distribution facilities, distribution system improvements such as minor expansions, conversions, and rebuilds.

  • Follows established procedures to accomplish requirements of job

Essential Functions:
  • Perform various design duties including conducting field surveys, performing calculations, preparing drawings and specifications, selecting equipment, developing material lists, estimating labor and material costs, and updating GIS system associated with the analysis and design of distribution facilities for simple construction projects.
  • Provide technical field support including staking and design modifications to accommodate field changes.
  • Apply Engineering Guides, Construction Standards, National Electric Safety Code, NBIC and ASME.
  • Apply Company policies associated with customer charges and sale of Company facilities.
  • Provide designs and field assessments to support emergency restoration efforts.
  • Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding information needed for projects.

Education/Work Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Math, Physics, or other related technical degree; Or
  • Completion of 60 hours equivalent college course work toward an Engineering Technology, Math, Physics, or other related technical degree; And 2 years design or utility distribution experience; Or
  • 4 years Utility Operation or Construction experience, with a minimum 2 years Utility Operations or Construction Experience; And Completion of 6 hours of Algebra/Trigonometry/Calculus or 6 hours of Electrical/Electronics/physics college course work.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.

KSAs:
  • Knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of particular field of specialization.
  • 4 years Utility Operation or Construction experience, with a minimum 2 years Utility Operations or Construction Experience; And Completion of 6 hours of Algebra/Trigonometry/Calculus or 6 hours of Electrical/Electronics/physics college course work.
  • Ability to embrace Safety as a value.
  • Knowledge of Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively and professionally with team members, leaders, and customers.
  • Organizational, prioritization, and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Computer skills with ability to use application software (e.g., ArcFM Designer, SAP and MS Office Suite).
  • Ability and desire to develop and add capabilities and skills.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical drawings and site plans (e.g., commercial & industrial customers, highway drawings).
  • Ability to understand voltage drop, flicker calculations, sketches, bill of materials (BOM), etc.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
  • Office environment requiring extensive computer work
  • Outdoor environment requiring ability to traverse rough terrain, exposure to hazardous conditions, work in extreme/inclement weather, and wearing of PPE
  • Required to work overtime
  • Required to be available for callouts to respond to storm damage during non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Occasional travel required including overnight
