Job Description

Mail Processing Clerk

Location: El Paso, TX

Description:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable contractor to assist with the processing of returned customer correspondence. In this role, you will physically sort and review large volumes of returned mail, update customer records in a spreadsheet, and cross-reference information using our internal customer database. This role also involves occasional outbound phone calls to customers for address verification. The ideal candidate is organized, quick to learn, comfortable with repetitive tasks, and experienced with basic data entry and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sort and review large volumes of returned customer mail.
  • Physically handle, stack, and lift trays of mail as needed.
  • Classify mail by type and update relevant information in tracking spreadsheets.
  • Search and verify customer accounts using an internal database.
  • Update spreadsheets with address and contact information from the database.
  • Call customers to verify or update contact details when necessary.
  • Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in all data entry and customer record updates.
  • Work independently to meet daily and weekly processing goals.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working in an administrative, mailroom, or clerical environment.
  • Comfortable working independently in a structured, process-driven role.

Skills and Experience:
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on repetitive tasks without losing accuracy.
  • Proficiency in data entry and basic spreadsheet usage (Excel or Google Sheets).
  • Basic understanding of mailing address standards and formatting.
  • Experience using Customer Information Systems (CIS) or CRM platforms.
  • Good time management skills and the ability to stay organized.
  • Effective communication skills, including fluency in English; bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing or sales support role, with the ability to promote service options confidently and professionally.
  • Comfortable guiding customers toward digital solutions, including enrolling in electronic statement delivery when applicable.
  • Ability to lift and move trays of mail as part of the daily workflow.
  • Calm under pressure and able to work through large volumes of information without becoming overwhelmed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Regularly engages in physical tasks such as lifting, bending, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Requires the ability to bend, twist, squat, and kneel throughout the workday.
  • Manual dexterity and physical endurance are essential for handling repetitive tasks efficiently.
  • Must be comfortable sitting for extended periods when performing computer-based work.
